COVID-19 Testing and Steps to Keep Our Community Safe

To ensure the health and safety of yourself as well as your community, if you are exhibiting symptoms you feel may be consistent with COVID-19, we ask you DO NOT show up at your place of health care unannounced. Instead, please call 509.663.8711 so we may ask you a few questions that will best determine your course of care.

Needing a COVID-19 Test?

We urge all community members to get tested if you have had a known COVID-19 exposure or if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (including fever, cough, difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell, or sore throat), even if you have not had a known exposure. There are several testing options available.

What to expect after being tested for COVID-19:

The specimen that was taken will be processed and the results of your test will return to Confluence Health typically within 24 – 48 hours. You will be instructed to quarantine until your results return. If you screened for COVID-19 for surgery or a procedure, you should quarantine until the date of your appointment even if your results come back negative. Patients who have a negative result but have symptoms should remain home and isolate for a minimum of 48 hours.

If you are being screened for COVID-19 for a surgery or procedure:
Confluence Health will notify you if your results come back positive and your procedure needs to be rescheduled. If your results are negative, you will not be contacted prior to your surgery or procedure specific to your COVID test. You may still be called with instructions or details regarding your procedure prior to your scheduled procedure/surgery date.

Prefer to test at home?

COVID-19 tests are available at a variety of local distribution locations. You may find free tests available at many local pharmacies. You can also order free tests to be mailed to your home through the Department of Health and Human Services, available here. (Phone orders and TTY are also available at the numbers on the linked site.) Additionally, you can also order home tests through the Say Yes! COVID Test page, available here.

What if you test positive on a home test?

There is no need to come into a walk-in clinic or other testing site for confirmation. Instead, please follow the current Washington State Department of Health guidelines, including isolating from others, wearing a mask, watching your symptoms, notifying people you have had contact with recently, and contacting your health care provider if needed. Further guidelines are available here. Remember to only call 911 if you notice any emergency signs, such as trouble breathing, constant chest pain or pressure, sudden confusion, inability to respond, or pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds.

If you test at home, remember to report a positive COVID-19 test result to Washington’s COVID-19 hotline at 1–800–525–0127 (dial number and then press #) and to report your result anonymously to the WA Notify system on your cell phone. You can find more information on using the WA Notify system here.

Additionally, food and other necessities are available for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to support isolating or quarantining at home through Care Connect Washington. You can request this service when calling the Washington State COVID-19 hotline (1-800-525-0127, then press #). You can find more information on this service here.

Thank you for your efforts to keep our community healthy and safe!

In some cases, a suspected false negative on a rapid-result test may need to be re-tested using the longer method. The Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner has ordered all health plans regulated by his office to cover testing for COVID-19 without copays or deductibles.

It does not apply to the following plans:

  • Employer plans that are self-funded
  • Medicare
  • Federal employee health plans
  • Health plans for members of the military or veterans
  • Uniform Medical Plan for state and school employees

While the cost of the COVID-19 test may be covered, some other medical care costs related to your illness depend on your insurance coverage. These medical costs could include other tests, such as testing for the flu or other respiratory illness.

More information about health insurance and coronavirus is available on the Insurance Commissioners website.
